Grant Gilchrist, 35, had a moment to forget during the first half following a line-out.

As Scotland and Italy players battled for the ball, Gilchrist appeared to almost lose his shorts as they slipped down his legs, briefly leaving his bare backside on display for viewers.

The match was shown live on the BBC, with the camera initially zoomed in on the maul before quickly switching to a wide shot to avoid lingering on the awkward moment.

Gilchrist was left in the situation for almost 20 seconds while both teams continued to contest the ball, before Scotland eventually regained possession.

He pointed it out by saying: “Oh hello!”

After a brief awkward silence and a comment from his co-commentator, Cotter added with a laugh: “It is both waxing and waning.”
