edinburgh Rugby Announce Team for Benetton Clash

The Edinburgh Rugby team has announced it’s starting XV for the upcoming match against Benetton, featuring three changes from last week’s narrow defeat in Munster. Lock Grant Gilchrist returns to the side, replacing Marshall Sykes.

Notably, Academy graduate Ross Scott, 24, will take the reins at fly-half (10) for his first appearance at Hive Stadium. This marks the side’s official home opener after the postponement of their round two clash against Ulster.

Head Coach sean Everitt expressed excitement about returning home, stating, “We’re excited to be back at home after a false start with the postponed Ulster game. It had already felt like a long time since we’d been back with our fans, and now even more so – so we can’t wait to be playing in front of them again.”

Everitt also acknowledged the challenge posed by Benetton, saying, “Benetton can’t be underestimated with the squad they have. They’ve got plenty of Italian internationals playing for them, and they’ve got overseas internationals as well, so they’re a really good team.”

The backline sees a fresh half-back pairing of Ben Shiel and Scott, alongside Wes Goosen and wingers Duhan van der merwe and darcy Graham, who scored his first try of the season in Cork. James Lang and Piers O’Conor will continue their partnership in the center.

The forward pack remains largely unchanged, with Pierre Schoeman, Ewan Ashman, and D’arcy Rae forming the front row. Gilchrist will partner with Sam Skinner in the second row, while Magnus Bradbury, Dylan Richardson, and Liam McConnell will comprise the back row.

On the bench, James Whitcombe replaces the rested Boan Venter, and Ross Thompson returns from injury to take a spot in the 23.

Ahead of kick-off, fans will be treated to an innovative pre-match light show utilizing technology from CUE Audio.
