Shiba Inu Rooms Anime Debuts in Summer 2027
High school student Kori Momose and an earthbound Shiba Inu ghost named Mu are headed to television screens in a newly announced adaptation of Esu Omori’s comedy manga. Wright Film announced on Sunday that the series will premiere in summer 2027, with TMS Entertainment handling the animation.
The adaptation announcement landed on November 1, a date recognized in Japan as “Wan Wan Wan Day” (“Wan” being the sound of a dog barking in Japanese). To mark the announcement, TMS Entertainment released a teaser promotional video on its official YouTube channel, while Omori shared a special celebration illustration depicting Mu leaping out of a television screen.
The cast features Niina Nakabayashi voicing the serious, hardworking protagonist Kori Momose, while Mutsumi Tamura takes on the role of the grumpy ghost dog, Mu. Osamu Yamasaki is directing the series at TMS Entertainment, with character designs crafted by Rio.
Maison Shiba Apartment Setup and Viz Media Release History
The story unfolds at Maison Shiba, a newly built apartment building where units rent for an unusually cheap 4,800 yen a month. After transferring schools, Kori moves into room 101, only to discover it comes pre-packaged with a disgruntled canine roommate who haunts the premises. While Kori attempts various methods to free Mu from the room and reclaim her solo life, the building fills out with other eccentric neighbors and Shiba Inu spirits.

The source manga originally launched as a one-shot in 2023 before transitioning into a full serialization on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform in June 2024. The web platform version has surpassed 57 million total views. Viz Media licensed the manga for digital release in January 2025, followed by a physical print announcement in February 2026. The company shipped the first English volume to print on September 1, and the series remains accessible digitally in English on the MANGA Plus app.
Upcoming Volume Nine Release and Promotional Events
Shueisha is scheduled to publish the ninth volume of the manga in Japan on November 4. Alongside the book release, seven commercial facilities across Japan will host kids’ corner decorations themed around the series from November 4 through December 31, distributing limited-quantity Mu-chan masks to visitors.

While production is actively underway according to director Osamu Yamasaki’s statements on social media, specific broadcast channels, an exact premiere date, and additional cast members remain unannounced.
