Shoe Suite Expands in Cork with New Douglas Court Location

A family-owned shoe shop, The Shoe Suite, is opening a new location at Douglas Court Shopping Centre in Cork, following the closure of its city centre store on Oliver Plunkett Street. The expansion demonstrates the business’s continued growth and commitment to the Cork market.

Expansion Amidst City Centre Closure

The new Shoe Suite store will be located within Douglas Court Shopping Centre, a popular shopping destination in Cork [1]. This move comes after the closure of the O’Dwyer’s Footwear shop on Oliver Plunkett Street. Customers were previously reassured that they could still identify their favorite shoes at the Maylor Street location.

A Third-Generation Family Business

The Shoe Suite is part of a third-generation family business, O’Dwyer’s Footwear, established in Midleton in 1960 by Florence O’Dwyer [2]. The business has expanded to include stores in Kilkenny, Waterford, Tipperary, and Dungarvan, operating under the names The Shoe Suite and O’Dwyers Footwear [3]. The O’Dwyer family also owns a wholesale business, designing and distributing men’s shoes under the brand Mezlan.

Douglas Court Shopping Centre: A Thriving Retail Hub

Douglas Court Shopping Centre offers a variety of retail options, including fashion, beauty, gifts, and food [4]. Other stores in the centre include Dunnes Stores, Next, Kilkenny, Verso, Carraig Donn, Gerard, Boots, Sam McCauleys, and Cummins Sports [1].

Oliver Plunkett Street Unit Available

The former O’Dwyer’s Footwear location on Oliver Plunkett Street, a 79sqm ground floor retail unit, is currently available for rent through Savills. The location is described as being in a high-footfall area with a diverse mix of retailers [2].

The Douglas Court shop is expected to open next month.
