SpaceX Launches EchoStar XXV, Expanding TV Broadcast Capabilities
Cape Canaveral, FL – SpaceX successfully launched its 30th mission of 2026 early Tuesday morning, sending the EchoStar XXV television satellite into orbit. The Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Space Launch Complex 40 at 12:19 a.m. EDT (0419 GMT) on March 10, carrying the 15,000-pound (6,800-kilogram) satellite skyward. SpaceX confirmed the successful deployment.
The mission marked the 14th flight and landing for Booster 1085, a Falcon 9 first stage that has previously supported missions including Crew-9 and the Firefly Blue Ghost Mission 1. News USA Today reports that approximately nine minutes after liftoff, the booster successfully touched down on the SpaceX droneship “A Shortfall of Gravitas” in the Atlantic Ocean.
EchoStar XXV: Enhancing Direct-to-Home Television
The EchoStar XXV satellite is designed to deliver direct-to-home television services for Dish Network, a subsidiary of EchoStar. Following deployment into geosynchronous transfer orbit approximately 35 minutes after launch, the satellite will maneuver to its final geostationary orbit, located 22,236 miles (35,786 kilometers) above Earth. News USA Today details that this positioning will allow EchoStar XXV to provide consistent television signals to viewers across a wide geographic area.
A Shift from Starlink Dominance
Tuesday’s launch represents a departure from the majority of SpaceX’s 2026 missions, which have largely focused on expanding the Starlink broadband constellation. Twenty-four out of SpaceX’s 30 orbital launches this year have been dedicated to Starlink. Space.com highlights this shift in focus.
