Inglewood, CA – Director Spike Lee made a subtle yet impactful political statement at the 2026 NBA All-Star Game held at the Intuit Dome in Southern California on February 15, 2026. Lee wore attire expressing support for Palestine during the event, which featured a new format with USA vs. World teams.
Lee’s Outfit Sparks Conversation
Lee’s courtside outfit drew attention amidst the excitement of the 75th NBA All-Star Game. While he did not issue a formal statement, his clothing served as a clear message of solidarity with the Palestinian cause. The game showcased a new format, pitting World All-Stars against All-Stars from the United States, divided into Team Stars and Team Stripes.
Israeli Player Makes All-Star Debut
The World All-Stars roster included Portland Trail Blazers forward Deni Avdija, marking the first time an Israeli-born player participated in an NBA All-Star Game. Avdija displayed his national pride by wearing the Israeli flag on the back of his jersey during the game. “I feel like when I come to play, I come with the entire nation and it’s fun to reveal that it’s possible, even for a minor country like us,” Avdija stated, according to the Times of Israel.
International Relations Acknowledged
Houston Rockets star Alperen Sengun, who is Turkish, acknowledged the broader geopolitical context when asked about his relationship with Avdija. “You know, I think that stuff is a lot bigger than ours… We just going to represent our country, here, you know, the best we can. Deni is the same harder worker,” Sengun told reporters. He further emphasized the importance of basketball as a unifying force, stating, “Hopefully, you know, it’s all got into peace in all world, and that’s all we wanted.”
