Raheem Sterling Departs Chelsea by Mutual Agreement
Raheem Sterling has officially left Chelsea Football Club, concluding a prolonged period of uncertainty that spanned over 18 months. The 31-year-old forward was training separately from the first team this season, adhering too a strict schedule of isolated arrivals and departures, and utilizing separate facilities.
It is reported that Sterling has relinquished a significant portion of the remaining salary from his £325,000-per-week contract, originally signed upon his transfer from Manchester City in 2022, which had 18 months left to run.
A statement released by the club acknowledged the departure, stating, “Raheem Sterling has today departed Chelsea Football Club by mutual agreement, bringing to an end three-and-a-half seasons as our player, having signed in the summer of 2022 when he was transferred from Manchester City. we thank Raheem for the contribution he made while a Chelsea player and wish him well for the next stage in his career.”
Sterling’s last competitive appearance for Chelsea occurred in May 2024. He was later informed just three months later by newly appointed head coach enzo Maresca that he was no longer a part of the team’s plans. A previous season-long loan spell with Arsenal failed to materialize into a permanent transfer, resulting in Sterling being included in Maresca’s group of players deemed surplus to requirements.
