Police allege that Andrews and Stevens, along with a third unknown offender, abducted Baghsarian from his home in North Ryde on February 13, 2026, in a case of mistaken identity. Baghsarian was allegedly transported to a property in Dural, a semi-rural suburb of Sydney, where he was murdered before 9pm on February 14. His body was discovered approximately ten days later in bushland near Pitt Town, about a 30-minute drive from Dural.
Court Appearance and Legal Representation
Both men appeared via video link in Blacktown Local Court on Thursday. Andrews’ lawyer, Paul McGirr, a former police officer, stated that his client was “no mastermind” in the alleged incident, acknowledging the disturbing nature of the allegations. Stevens’ lawyer requested antiviral medication for shingles while he is in custody, noting that the condition is no longer contagious but he had not been able to shower in 24 hours.
Investigation and Arrests
The arrests of Andrews and Stevens followed a search of properties in Kenthurst, Castle Hill, and Lake Macquarie, where vehicles, electronics, and clothing relevant to the investigation were seized. Police are continuing to search for the third alleged offender and believe others may have been involved. Authorities initially believed the intended target of the kidnapping was a relative of Sydney businessman Dimitri Stepanyan, with a potential ransom demand of AU$50 million (approximately US$33 million).
Family’s Statement
Baghsarian’s family, who described the ordeal as a “nightmare,” expressed relief at the arrests but have requested privacy as they grieve the loss of their father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. They described him as a gentle man “who would never hurt a fly.”

Both Andrews and Stevens were refused bail and are scheduled to return to court on April 17, 2026. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue their search for the third suspect and gather further evidence.
