Systemic Vasculitis and Premature Birth/Preeclampsia Risk

Stanford – Pregnant women with systemic vasculitis appear to have an increased risk of premature birth. The risk of preeclampsia and eclampsia was also increased in a study, the results of which were published by researchers led by Audra Horomanski, Stanford Universityin The Lancet Rheumatology present (DOI: 10.1016/S2665-9913(25)00218-8). Accordingly, it is important to inform affected women and monitor them during pregnancy.

Systemic vasculitides are rare, heterogeneous, inflammatory diseases that are associated with high morbidity and mortality. They are typically categorized by vessel size. The pattern of vascular involvement determines the clinical manifestations and organ damage.
