Tanker Struck Off Qatari Coast

A tanker was hit by two unidentified projectiles early Tuesday morning approximately 50 nautical miles north of Madinat ash Shamal, Qatar. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported the strike occurred at 2:20 a.m. local time, leaving the status of the crew and the severity of the damage under assessment.

Lightning Confirms Al Mayeda Incident

The strike follows an October 30 incident involving the liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker Al Mayeda. Owned by the Qatari company Nakilat, the vessel was hit by unidentified objects while transiting the Persian Gulf. Nakilat confirmed in an official statement that the crew remained unharmed and the ship suffered no environmental impact. The vessel remains operational as technical teams continue to evaluate the damage.

Diplomatic Appeals for Stability

The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the attack on the Al Mayeda via the SABA news agency. The ministry rejected actions that threaten global energy supplies and maritime freedom, calling for urgent international intervention to secure the region. Meanwhile, Qatar—acting as a mediator between the U.S. and Iran—has accelerated its diplomatic efforts. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Doha confirmed Tuesday that both nations are reviewing mediator proposals as negotiations continue.
