Tatra Trucks Delivers World-First 16×16 Phoenix to Australia for Quantum Comms
A highly specialized heavy-duty vehicle from Tatra Trucks is en route to Australia, marking a world-first configuration for the model. The vehicle, a 16×16 right-hand-drive Tatra Phoenix chassis, has been custom-built for Victorian communications infrastructure company Quantum Comms to carry a 100-meter Bronto Skylift aerial platform CzechTrade.
Specialized Chassis for Demanding Operations
The Tatra Phoenix 8GR64P 16×16 is the first of its kind ever produced within the Phoenix range. It was developed in collaboration with Offroad Trucks Australia and Bronto Skylift AUST/NZ, requiring significant engineering and custom design function to safely handle the demands of the 100-meter class lift CzechTrade.
According to Offroad Trucks Australia, substantial innovation and engineering hours were dedicated to creating a chassis capable of supporting the structural and operational requirements of the aerial platform CzechTrade. A second 16×16 unit is already under production for Quantum Comms.
Tatra’s Backbone Design and Heritage
The Phoenix series builds upon Tatra’s established backbone chassis design, originating from a 1996 collaboration between Tatra and DAF to create a competitive heavy-duty model. Modern Phoenix production began in 2011 CzechTrade.
