Vilalba Council Approves 545,871-Euro Extraordinary Credit for Infrastructure and Local Improvements

The Vilalba municipal corporation convened an extraordinary plenary session at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to vote on an extraordinary credit expediente totaling 545,871.46 euros, financed from the liquid treasury surplus for general expenses, alongside the debate of two other credit modification expedientes and the lottery for polling station members for the general elections on November 29. Marta Rouco emphasizes We are talking about improving streets, renewing facilities and basic services and continuing to take care of both the urban space and the parishes, adding that This extraordinary credit allows us to transform municipal resources into concrete actions that respond to real needs, and We want municipal investments to have a direct reflection on the daily life of residents. That means acting on the streets, but also in the facilities that families use, in sports equipment, in sanitation and in the services that allow the Town Hall to function every day.

Street Upgrades and Lighting on Rúa Plácido Peña

The single largest expenditure in the credit modification package allocates over 134,000 euros to improve Rúa Plácido Peña. Municipal plans detail the replacement of 20 existing streetlights with seven-meter LED poles. Workers will also humanize the street’s intersection with Cidade de Viveiro and As Pontes by adding green spaces with low-growing native vegetation, rest areas, washed concrete sidewalks, monument lighting reinforcement, and protective granite structures functioning as benches around a local cruceiro.

Sports Facilities and Basic Municipal Services

Beyond street furniture and lighting, the funds target several civic amenities and local infrastructure projects. The municipal indoor pool receives 50,152 euros to renovate its domestic hot water system and boost energy efficiency. Meanwhile, the Children’s Attention Point (PAI) secures 33,230 euros for air conditioning installation, and the A Magdalena artificial turf football pitch receives 21,469 euros to upgrade its LED field illumination.

Additional allocations within the 545,871-euro package include:

  • 13,103 euros to replace the sanitation network on Rúa Pita de Veiga for public health and environmental protection.
  • 11,000 euros dedicated to sociocultural programming and parish dynamism.
  • Conditioning plots for public parking, pothole repairs on access roads in Corbelle, Martiñán, and Oleiros, and maintenance work at the House of Culture and municipal auditorium.
  • Funding for cultural and tourist programming, software licenses, municipal email, and services such as Liña Verde.

Readjusted Access Road Project in Goiriz

Plenary members also addressed the updated project to repair access to the nucleus of Ver from the N-634 in Goiriz. Backed by a 36,800-euro budget funded via a cooperative agreement between the Mayor’s Office and the Provincial Council of Lugo, the project required a redesign after its original tender process went deserted. Marta Rouco notes We have updated the project and the amounts to be able to tender it again and advance in the improvement of this access. Officials plan to relaunch the bidding process shortly.
