This week in 2020, Portland, Maine passed a facial recognition ban that said the city could fire employees who violated it. This might have been useful in Seattle where a police detective tried out Clearview facial recognition technology and possibly broke local laws. The FBI pulled another one of its schemes to create a terrorist case and was also trying to search a phone for evidence they didn’t need. Nintendo was trying to stop people from using Animal Crossing in creative ways while the developers of cyberpunk 2077 were adding a special mode to help streamers avoid DMCA notices.
