Police Investigate Strabane Bonfire Assault as Bystander Rescues Teen From Flames

Detectives in County Tyrone are appealing for witnesses after a teenage boy was punched unconscious and fell into a Halloween bonfire in Strabane on October 31, 2026. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) reported receiving a call just after 10.35pm regarding the incident at the Bradley Way site, where a woman pulled the victim to safety from the bonfire.

Rescue at Bradley Way Bonfire

Video footage from the scene shows the teenager collapsing face-first onto the fire immediately after taking a punch, according to reporting by The Irish News. As onlookers shouted and screamed, the victim lay motionless on the hot embers for several seconds. A woman from the surrounding crowd rushed forward and successfully pulled the youngster from the blaze. Paramedics subsequently transported the victim to a hospital for treatment, though authorities have not released specific updates on his current medical condition.

PSNI Appeal and Local Political Reaction

Detective Sergeant Moyne described the assault as a reckless and dangerous act that left the victim injured, commending the anonymous woman for her bravery. Investigators are urging anyone with mobile phone footage or information regarding the late-night altercation to come forward, referencing case number 1932 of 31/10/26 via the PSNI witness appeal form or by calling 101, or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111, as reported by the Irish Mirror.

Local representatives voiced grave concerns following the incident. Strabane independent councillor Jason Barr told The Irish News that the situation could easily have turned fatal if not for the quick instincts of the female rescuer. Independent councillor Paul Gallagher added that the episode highlights the ongoing dangers associated with local Halloween bonfires, noting that organizers frequently shift locations once authorities shut down previous sites, drawing young crowds and alcohol consumption into unsupervised areas.
