Telangana Targets Illegal IVF Centres

The Telangana government has launched a crackdown on private in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) centres involved in illegal practices, including unauthorized egg collection and the exploitation of fertility patients. Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha announced on Friday that the state will permanently cancel the registrations of any facility found violating government regulations.

The government had earlier taken action against irregularities at the Srushti Fertility Centre and has now identified and apprehended a gang linked to an illegal egg collection racket. Officials are now coordinating with police to conduct ongoing inspections and surveillance of private clinics across the state to prevent further illicit activity.

Licensing Penalties for IVF Doctors

Beyond closing clinics, the Health Minister has instructed department officials to pursue the revocation of medical licences for doctors implicated in these illegal operations. During a review meeting at the TGMSIDC office in Koti, officials were tasked with exploring the possibility of permanently cancelling the medical licences of doctors found guilty.

Regulatory Committee Formation

To prevent future occurrences, the state government is moving to tighten the enforcement of the Surrogacy and Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) Acts. The Health Minister has directed the Principal Secretary of the Health Department to establish a committee.
