No. 3 Texas Longhorns Claim BRUCE BOLT College Classic Title with Victory Over Ohio State

HOUSTON – The No. 3 Texas Longhorns defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes 10-3 on Sunday afternoon at Daikin Park, securing the championship of the BRUCE BOLT College Classic. Texas finished the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record, alongside UTSA, but claimed the crown due to a superior run differential.

Longhorns Explode in Third Inning

After two scoreless innings, the Longhorns erupted for seven runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run home run from Temo Becerra. Becerra’s home run was his third of the tournament, doubling his career total. The inning began with an RBI single from Ethan Mendoza, scoring Casey Borba. Carsen Tinney followed with an RBI groundout, and Aiden Robbins added another run with a single. Adrian Rodriguez then drove in a run with an RBI double, and Becerra’s home run extended the lead to 7-0.

Volantis and Bullpen Shut Down Buckeyes

Dylan Volantis started for Texas, striking out eight batters over 4 2/3 innings, allowing just one run. Brett Crossland (1-0) earned the win in relief, while Brody Walls and Cal Higgins each recorded two strikeouts as they combined to pitch the final 4 1/3 innings, limiting the Buckeyes to three runs on six hits. Ohio State scored two runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but Texas responded with two of their own in the seventh, extending the lead to 10-3.

Tournament Dominance

Texas (11-0) was one of two teams to win all three of its games in the BRUCE BOLT College Classic, posting a tournament-best plus-17 run differential. Becerra finished the weekend 4-for-8 with seven runs and six RBI.

Next Up for the Longhorns

Texas will next host Houston Christian on Tuesday, March 3, at 6:30 p.m.
