The Two Johnnies’ Johnny Smacks Welcomes Son JJ Home After Months in Hospital

Johnny Smacks, of the popular Irish podcast duo The Two Johnnies, has shared heartwarming news: his son, JJ, is finally home after a lengthy stay in hospital following his birth in December. JJ was born with gastroschisis, a rare birth defect.

Understanding Gastroschisis

Gastroschisis occurs when a baby’s abdominal wall doesn’t fully develop during pregnancy, resulting in the intestines being located outside of the body. Johnny and his wife, Annie, were informed of the condition early in the pregnancy.

JJ’s Journey and Surgeries

Little JJ required five surgeries in total to address the condition. The Sun reports that Johnny initially shared that JJ would be in the hospital for a “whilst yet,” but expressed his son’s incredible fight throughout the ordeal.

Coming Home to Tipperary

In a recent Instagram post, Johnny Smacks announced the joyous occasion of bringing JJ home to Tipperary. He expressed gratitude to their supporters, stating, “After a long few months, we’re delighted to get him home to Tipperary, it wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for all the incredible surgeons, doctors, nurses and staff in [Children’s Health Ireland], we can’t thank them enough.”

Giving Back to Children’s Health Ireland

To show his appreciation for the exceptional care JJ received, Johnny Smacks is organizing a charity drive for Children’s Health Ireland. He announced plans for a show at the 3Arena in aid of the hospital.

Looking Ahead

Johnny and Annie are now looking forward to the challenges and joys of raising their son. Johnny humorously acknowledged the “madness” of parenthood and hinted at entertaining podcast content to arrive, stating, “Right there’s nappies to be changed, thanks again.”
