Thunder Reach 50 Wins, Pistons Collapse in NBA Action
Oklahoma City reached 50 wins this season on Saturday, defeating the Golden State Warriors 104-97. In other NBA action, the Detroit Pistons suffered a stunning collapse, losing 105-107 to the Brooklyn Nets after leading by 23 points.
Thunder Secure 50th Win
The Oklahoma City Thunder are enjoying a strong finish to the season, boosted by the return of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Their victory over the Warriors marked their fifth consecutive win and solidified their position as the top team in the NBA. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 27 points in the game, reaching his 125th consecutive game with at least 20 points. He is now just one game shy of tying Wilt Chamberlain’s record of 126 straight 20+ point games, a feat he can achieve on Monday against the Denver Nuggets. Fadeaway World reports that Gilgeous-Alexander also secured a crucial late-game three-pointer and a game-sealing block.
The Thunder now boast a record of 50-15, becoming the first team in the league to reach 50 wins this season. Isaiah Joe contributed 18 points to the Thunder’s victory.
Warriors Fall Short
Despite the absence of Stephen Curry due to a right knee injury, MSN reports that the Warriors put up a fight, tying the game on two occasions after overcoming a 14-point deficit. However, they were unable to complete the comeback. Gui Santos led the Warriors with a double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, while Brandin Podziemski added 17 points and Draymond Green contributed 16.
The Warriors’ record now stands at 32-31, placing them eighth in the Western Conference and likely facing a play-in tournament.
Pistons Suffer Devastating Loss
The Detroit Pistons experienced a heartbreaking defeat against the Brooklyn Nets, losing 105-107 after squandering a 23-point lead in the third quarter. The Nets, who had lost ten consecutive games, mounted a remarkable 28-53 run to secure the victory. Ziaire Williams hit two crucial three-pointers in the final minutes to put the Nets ahead.
The Pistons were playing without star player Cade Cunningham, who is nursing a bruise in his left quadriceps and Ausar Thompson, sidelined with a sprained right ankle.
