Tilburg Highway Closed: Serious Crash Causes Long Delays

Tilburg,Netherlands – January 20,2026 – A serious traffic accident occurred on Tuesday evening on teh A58 highway between Tilburg-Centrum and Tilburg-Reeshof,resulting in critical injuries to the driver. The incident prompted an extensive emergency response and a prolonged closure of the highway in the direction of Breda.

According to initial reports from the police, the accident took place shortly after 7:30 PM. Witnesses described the vehicle leaving the roadway at a high rate of speed before overturning multiple times and coming to rest in a ditch. The cause of the vehicle leaving the road remains under investigation, with authorities considering the possibility of an evasive maneuver.

Emergency services, including police, fire and rescue teams, and an air ambulance, were dispatched to the scene. Paramedics worked to extricate the seriously injured driver from the wreckage before transporting them to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention. Rijkswaterstaat, the dutch public works agency, has implemented traffic diversions for motorists traveling from Eindhoven. Drivers are being directed via the A2, A59, and A27 through Waalwijk. Authorities anticipate the highway will remain closed for several hours, with a projected reopening sometime overnight.
