Indonesia Mourns Fourth UN Peacekeeper Death in Lebanon Attack Indonesia has mourned the loss of another United Nations peacekeeper who died from wounds sustained in southern Lebanon, marking the fourth Indonesian military personnel killed while serving with UNIFIL within a month. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced the death of Corporal Rico Pramudia, a 31-year-old Indonesian Army soldier, on April 24, 2026. Pramudia succumbed to serious injuries after receiving nearly a month of treatment at a hospital in Beirut for wounds sustained in a projectile explosion at his base in Adchit Al Qusayr on March 29. His death follows the March 29 killing of Staff Sergeant Farizal Rhomadhon, 28, who died in the same initial attack. Two additional Indonesian peacekeepers—Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, 33, and Muhammad Nur Ichwan, 26—were killed the next day when an explosion struck a UNIFIL logistics convoy in southern Lebanon. According to a UN probe shared on April 7, the first incident likely resulted from Israeli tank fire, while the second explosion that killed Iskandar and Ichwan was attributed to a Hezbollah improvised explosive device. UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated the UN has requested relevant parties investigate and prosecute those responsible to ensure criminal accountability for crimes against peacekeepers. Indonesia received the bodies of the three peacekeepers killed in the March incidents on April 4, with a ceremony attended by President Prabowo Subianto at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized the need for a thorough UN investigation and security guarantees for peacekeeping personnel. UNIFIL reiterated that deliberate attacks against peacekeepers constitute grave violations of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701, potentially amounting to war crimes. The mission urged all parties to uphold their obligations to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property. With Pramudia’s death, Indonesia has now lost four TNI personnel serving under UNIFIL in southern Lebanon within the past month. The Garuda Contingent continues its peacekeeping mission amid ongoing hostilities between Israeli forces and Hezbollah in the region.
