Tokyo’s Sézanne Maintains Prominence on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants List

Tokyo continues to be a dominant force in Asia’s culinary landscape, securing seven spots on the 2026 Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list, announced in Hong Kong on Wednesday. The city holds the second-highest number of entries on the prestigious ranking. Among the recognized establishments, Sézanne, a French restaurant helmed by British chef Daniel Calvert, achieved the No. 16 position, a decline from its No. 4 ranking in the previous year.

Sézanne’s Journey and Leadership Transition

Sézanne, which opened in July 2021 on the seventh floor of the Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi, has quickly become a celebrated dining destination. The restaurant is known for its immersive neo-French style, infused with influences from Asian culinary cultures. Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants recognized Sézanne as No. 4 in 2025.

Notably, Chef Daniel Calvert will be departing at the complete of March 2026, with fellow British chef Stephen Lancaster set to accept the helm. This transition is expected to maintain the restaurant’s high standards and innovative approach to cuisine.

Other Tokyo Restaurants Recognized

Several other Tokyo restaurants experienced shifts in their rankings. Chinese-Japanese restaurant Sazenka climbed to No. 21, improving from its previous position of No. 34. Maz and Myoujyaku also saw improvements, rising to No. 28, and No. 33, respectively. However, Florilege slipped to No. 31 from No. 17, and Narisawa dropped to No. 37 from No. 12.

Sézanne’s Accolades and Culinary Philosophy

Sézanne has garnered numerous accolades, including recognition from the Michelin Guide and The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Sézanne’s culinary approach, led by Chef Calvert, blends a neo-French ethos with experiences gathered across Asia, resulting in unique and refined combinations. The restaurant’s elegant dining room, designed by Hong Kong artist André Fu, offers views of the Tokyo skyline and an open kitchen where diners can observe the culinary process.

Looking Ahead

Despite the change in leadership, Sézanne is poised to remain a prominent fixture in Tokyo’s vibrant dining scene. The restaurant’s commitment to culinary innovation and its celebration of both French and Asian flavors are expected to continue under Chef Lancaster’s direction. Tokyo’s strong showing on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list underscores its status as a global culinary capital.
