Trae Young and Anthony Davis Progressing, But Wizards Debut Still Awaiting

Washington Wizards fans will have to wait a bit longer to see their newly acquired stars, Trae Young and Anthony Davis, on the court. Both players are making progress in their respective recoveries, but neither is expected to produce their debut imminently, the team announced Thursday.

Trae Young’s Recovery

Trae Young, acquired in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks in January, is “progressing positively” as he recovers from a right knee MCL sprain and a right quadriceps contusion according to Wizards officials. The 27-year-old last played on December 27th. He is increasing his on-court work and will be reevaluated next week. Earlier this month, Wizards GM Will Dawkins noted that Young had already begun practicing in one-on-none and two-on-two settings as reported by ESPN.

Anthony Davis’ Rehabilitation

Anthony Davis, who joined the Wizards in a trade with the Dallas Mavericks earlier this month, is “progressing as expected” in his recovery from ligament damage in his left hand according to team officials. Davis last played on January 8th. He underwent a reevaluation with Los Angeles-based orthopedic surgeon Steven Shin, who specializes in hand and upper-limb injuries. He is not currently cleared for basketball activities and will be reevaluated in two weeks as reported by Yahoo Sports.

Wizards’ Approach

Washington coach Brian Keefe emphasized a patient approach, stating, “You just follow the process. That’s what we always do.” according to the Associated Press. The team is taking a day-by-day approach to both players’ recoveries.

Looking Ahead

The Wizards, currently holding the worst record in the NBA at 14-39 as of February 19, 2026, hope to integrate Young and Davis into the lineup as soon as they are medically cleared. While the timing remains uncertain, the addition of two 14-time All-Stars offers a glimmer of hope for the franchise and its fans.
