Life and Community Work in Rule
Trish Austin shared her life with her husband, Gene Austin, and was the mother of Grant and Becky Williamson, Jenny and Doug Easterling, and Luke and Kayla Hisey. Beyond her family, she shaped the local community through multiple careers and volunteer work. When her children were in school, she volunteered at their school and church, and she once ran a children’s home.
Her work as a hairdresser extended far beyond styling hair. After initially operating from her home, she opened a permanent place in town that functioned as a place where people came to talk, to be heard, and to find comfort. Despite facing financial hardships, she regularly contributed what she could to her church and missions, maintaining a strong personal faith centered around her favorite hymn, “It Is Well with My Soul.” In later years, she managed a transition in her daily life after becoming ill with MS.
Funeral Arrangements and Survivors
Arrangements for the November 3 service at First Baptist Church in Rule are managed by Smith Family Funeral Homes. She is survived by her husband, her children, her 17 grandchildren, her sisters Marilyn Simpson and Frieta Boyce, her sister-in-law Sarah Stewart, and numerous nieces and nephews.
