Investigators state that Evanoff used his cell phone to make the recording inside a woman’s dorm room at UNC Charlotte’s Hunt Hall building. Later that day, he posted the video to a Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity Snapchat group chat containing approximately 32 members, according to a warrant reviewed by the New York Post.
Confrontation and Confession to Investigators
Two people reported seeing the video within the Snapchat group. When the woman in the video discovered the recording, she confronted Evanoff and asked if he distributed the media to appear cool.
Authorities report that Evanoff responded affirmatively and apologized. During a subsequent interview with detectives, Evanoff admitted to recording and distributing the video without the victim’s permission. He acknowledged that sharing the footage would cause her embarrassment and humiliation.
University Disciplinary Action and Enrollment Status
UNC Charlotte officials stated that Evanoff is not currently enrolled at the university. The institution released a statement condemning the alleged behavior.
“The alleged conduct in this case, if true, is reprehensible,” university officials stated. “It is not what we expect or will tolerate from members of our campus community.”
The university added that any student breaking the law faces criminal charges alongside institutional disciplinary processes, which carry sanctions up to and including expulsion.
Bond Release and Upcoming Court Date
Jail records indicate that Evanoff posted a $10,000 bond and was released one day after his arrest. His probable cause hearing is scheduled for November 5.
