Breast Cancer Awareness Forum Held at Unexpo Puerto Ordaz
Breast cancer prevention and early detection were the focus of a recent campus forum held at the Minerva Arzola Conference Hall within the Research and Postgraduate Building of Unexpo, Puerto Ordaz.
Organized by the institution’s Directorate of Research and Postgraduate Studies, the gathering featured medical presentations, survivor testimony, and practical screening guidance. MS.c. Miriam Romero, director of research and postgraduate studies, opened the session with welcoming remarks for the academic personnel, administrative and labor staff, and invited special guests from the university community.
Angélica Márquez Leads Central Lecture on Early Detection
General practitioner and decade-long breast cancer survivor Angélica Márquez delivered the main lecture of the day, urging participants to maintain year-round vigilance regarding breast health. Márquez emphasized that routine screenings should not be restricted to Pink October, noting that women can develop the disease starting at age 20, and stressed the necessity to demystify the illness and maintain timely check-ups constantly.

“We are breaking the paradigm that it is only from age 40; cancer has no date on the calendar,” Márquez stated during her presentation.
Attendee Reactions and Practical Takeaways
Carmen Aguilera, an employee at Corpoelec who attended as a guest, valued the meeting space among women to break the stigmas linked to a diagnosis and described the session as a message of hope and empowerment rather than fear or a message of death.
Aguilera said.
Mariángeles Fonseca, another attendee, noted that the instructions provided clear, practical steps for female health maintenance, calling the activity very good and noting that it gives very useful instructions to be able to prevent breast cancer, which she finds very important for all women. Marbella Mesones, a Unexpo staff member, pointed specifically to the practical demonstrations of breast palpation and praised the speaker’s approachable delivery, charisma, spirituality, and way of reaching attendees with the talk, which gives strength to know how to move forward with faith in God if a similar case arises.
