Middle School Student Charged After False Shooting Threat on Snapchat
A 12-year-old student in Port Orange, Florida, faces charges after allegedly fabricating a shooting threat against Silver Sands Middle School via Snapchat. The student initially reported receiving threatening messages demanding explicit images, but authorities determined she created the account and sent the messages to herself, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began when the student claimed an unknown individual was demanding explicit images and threatened to carry out a shooting at Silver Sands Middle School if she didn’t comply. The alleged threats included photographs of firearms and specific details about the student’s class schedule WESH.
Investigation Reveals a Hoax
Deputies from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO), in partnership with the Port Orange Police Department, investigated the incident. They collaborated with Snapchat and the student’s phone carrier to obtain digital records. The evidence revealed the student created the Snapchat account and sent the threatening messages to herself Yahoo News.
The images of firearms used in the threats were determined to have been taken from the internet Yahoo News. When questioned, the student admitted to orchestrating the incident, stating she had been dared to send the messages WESH.
