I did it,
Cate McHugh told viewers after winning the grand final of The Voice UK 2026. The 31-year-old singer from Llantwit Major in the Vale of Glamorgan captured the title on October 31, 2026, after performing on ITV1 under the mentorship of coach Sir Tom Jones. McHugh secured a £50,000 cash prize, a recording contract with Universal Music Group, and a holiday to Universal Orlando Resort in Florida.
The victory concluded a journey that began when McHugh started busking outside a bank on Queen Street in Cardiff at age 16. Diagnosed with a degenerative sight condition at age 22 that left her registered blind, she continued pursuing music and noticed an application sign while performing in Cardiff Bay. Representing Team Tom Jones, she performed Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times” during the competition and received praise from the artist, whom she selected as her mentor. Following her victory, she stated: I won The Voice! I’m entirely gobsmacked and absolutely haven’t fully processed this information just yet.
She also noted: From the bottom of my heart I want to say THANK YOU for following my journey, and joining my world! This is where it’s going to REALLY get fun!
Explaining her selection of mentor, she added: Having Sir Tom Jones tell you that he wants you on his team, as a born and bred Welsh singer is insane. Because, I mean, his career has been mad and constant, and he’s still brilliant.
She further revealed: I didn’t want to give myself too much hope before I got on that stage. So I really didn’t think too much about it.
Commenting on representation and her condition, she noted: It’s been lovely for people to be like, ‘Thank you for showing that these things don’t have to stop you doing your dreams and doing what you want to do.’
She added: It’s massively important to see that representation, because to glance at me quickly without knowing me, you wouldn’t know that I have a sight condition that I struggle in those ways. I kind of want to, not educate people because that sounds really preachy, but just to broaden the understanding of what sight loss can be.
She additionally observed: It’s always something that I’ve known about myself, that my voice is how I want to tell my story, and singing is something I could never not do. I can’t imagine what my life would be like if I wasn’t musical.
Coaches and Finalists Vie in the October 31 Grand Final
The October 31 finale featured four remaining contestants following the semi-final stage on October 24, where 12 performers were narrowed down to one per team. Monique Nicholson-Porter represented Team Kelly Rowland, advancing to the final with a rendition of Whitney Houston’s “All the Man That I Need” despite battling illness prior to the semi-final. Naná Aldrin-Quaye performed La Lupe’s “Fever” for Team will.i.am, while Frank Raven represented Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones with a piano-led performance of Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell”. McHugh completed the lineup for Sir Tom Jones.

Television Scheduling and Presenter Departures Draw Viewer Attention
Audiences noted a scheduling overlap during the semi-final on October 24, as presenter Emma Willis appeared on both Strictly Come Dancing on the BBC and The Voice UK on ITV, prompting widespread discussion on social media.
The 2026 grand final also marked the final appearance for several figures on the programme. Presenter Emma Willis and coaches Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones also departed ahead of a 2027 series overhaul. ITV confirmed that Stacey Solomon and Alesha Dixon will take over hosting duties, while Cheryl and Aitch will join returning coaches Kelly Rowland and will.i.am on the coaching panel.

Universal Music Group Release and Future Broadcast Plans
Following her victory, McHugh released her single, a cover of The Beatles classic “Blackbird”, through Universal Music Group. Celebration events took place in Cardiff, where family and friends gathered for a watch party.
The 2027 series of The Voice UK will feature the newly announced coaching lineup and presenting team on ITV1 and ITVX.
