Will Drive - The Pretenders Get a Sequel on Prime Video?

Drive – The Pretenders Reaches Top of Prime Video Streaming Charts

Prime Video released the romantic film Drive – The Pretenders on October 28, and it quickly secured the top spot in the platform’s top ten streaming programs. The film follows Sarah, a young mechanic who agrees to play the fake fiancée of star driver Dante to help restore his public image, while hoping to secure her own chance to race.

The film adapts a Wattpad novel by author Tamara Lush. The streaming service has not yet announced a second film.

How Sarah and Dante Sign a Racing Contract

Sarah Jenkins works as a mechanic at Eagle Racing and wants to follow her father’s path to become a racing driver. Dante Annunziata holds titles and contracts, but his poor behavior outside of racing threatens his career. After a first meeting goes poorly, a photo puts them in the center of a media scandal. To silence rumors, they sign a contract to pretend they are in love through the end of the season. In exchange, Eagle Racing agrees to pay an 180,000-euro debt for Sarah’s parents and grant her an opportunity in the stable.

The Climax and Ending of Drive – The Pretenders

As they attend public events together, Sarah and Dante develop real feelings. Complications arise when Ruben reveals their secret on local television, and Dante discovers that Sarah broke his record and trained to become a champion. Dante overcomes his past struggles with the death of his sister in a car accident and wins the German Grand Prix after encouragement from Sarah. The film ends with Dante running through the rain to apologize to Sarah, and the two begin a vacation together.

Potential Sequels in Tamara Lush’s Book Series

Although the first film lacks a direct literary sequel for Sarah and Dante, Tamara Lush wrote two other books in the same universe that could serve as source material for Prime Video. The second book, Crash, follows former motorcycle racer Alex Jenkins as he pretends to be engaged to his intern, Evie Cooper, to prove his maturity to his grandmother. The third book, Burn, focuses on Lily Onassis after she leaves Formula 1 driver Max Becker and later becomes the boss of his racing team. Prime Video scheduled the release of its romantic French series Campus Drivers, adapted from novels by C.S. Quill. Quill, for November 6.
