Wine as an Investment: Long-Term Potential

Wine is not a tool for quick profit – it requires patience, understanding of the market, costs and many other factors, wine industry professional Madara Kapzema reveals in an interview to the Investor Club.

Please introduce yourself.

I currently work at the Michelin restaurant John Chef’s Hall as head sommelier and beverage manager. On a daily basis, I create wine lists, work with the selection of wines and other drinks, conduct tastings, master classes and trainings, as well as advise people on wine selection.

I have obtained a bachelor’s degree in business and finance, studying at the University of Banking, obtained Wine and Spirit Education Trust WSET Level 3 qualification while studying in London, as well as ASI Level 2 (Association de la Sommellerie Internationale) certificate. I am currently studying the WSET Diploma (Level 4) at the Austrian Wine Academy, with the aim of obtaining DipWSET and Wine Academicar knowledge and status.

I am the Latvian sommelier champion in 2024, while in 2025 I won 3rd place in Latvia and 4th place in the Baltic sommelier championship. I love helping people find the wine that is exactly right for their taste, budget and purpose – both for enjoyment and collection.
