X-Men Return to the Australian Outback in New Limited Series

Marvel Comics is revisiting a beloved era of X-Men history with the upcoming five-issue limited series, X-Men: Outback. Launching this June, the series will be set during the iconic “Outback Era” of the late 1980s, following the team’s relocation to Australia after the events of “Fall of the Mutants.”

The original “Outback Era,” which ran from 1988 to 1990 in Uncanny X-Men, was spearheaded by writer Chris Claremont and artist Marc Silvestri. The storyline saw the X-Men establishing a base of operations in the Australian Outback, operating under the belief that they were presumed dead by the public . This period is fondly remembered for its unique tone and storylines, including the introduction of the mutant nation of Genosha and the evolution of Psylocke into a ninja assassin .

What to Expect in the New Series

X-Men: Outback, written by Steve Orlando and illustrated by Stephen Segovia, aims to expand upon the foundations laid by Claremont and Silvestri. The series will explore the dynamics of a team comprised of Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, Colossus, Dazzler, Havok, Psylocke, and Longshot as they navigate their new surroundings and protect humanity from the shadows .

Writer Steve Orlando expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “It’s a rare thing…to secure the chance as a creator to work in the time period that made you love a comic.” He reminisced about discovering the X-Men through issues he collected at flea markets and spinner racks, praising the era’s “tension, the struggle to carve out a new life, the explosive personalities” .

Orlando also hinted at new developments, promising “all new threats, connections, and secret exes” alongside familiar faces .

Release Information
