Singer Yang Hee-eun recently shared her deep affection for fellow singer Lee Seong-mi during an appearance on the tvN STORY program, “What’s Left to Do?” The emotional conversation revealed a long-standing connection marked by both support and occasional disappointment.

A History of Support and Connection

Yang Hee-eun recounted how she began to feel close to Lee Seong-mi, explaining that she would often prepare meals for Lee Seong-mi, recognizing a shared vulnerability. “I sleep on the sofa at the broadcasting station because there is no one to wake me up… I know what it is. I know what it is through my intuition. That’s why I wanted to cook a meal. The world is so unfair and upsetting,” she stated.

She also expressed past disappointment when Lee Seong-mi didn’t reciprocate visits after receiving her hospitality, noting, “Several years passed like that.”

Battles with Cancer and Enduring Friendship

The conversation took a poignant turn as Yang Hee-eun discussed her own battle with ovarian cancer, diagnosed at the age of 30. She recalled being given a life expectancy of only three months but ultimately surviving and returning to her DJ career.

Yang Hee-eun also spoke about Lee Seong-mi’s own experience with cancer, admitting she hadn’t been particularly close during that time, believing Lee Seong-mi would cope independently. Lee Seong-mi shared that Yang Hee-eun had quietly left food at her door, a gesture that deeply touched her. “She’s the one who throws things at me. It makes me cry every time that happens,” Lee Seong-mi said.

A Family-Like Bond

Yang Hee-eun emphasized her belief in overcoming her temper, attributing it to her survival after two surgeries. She described their relationship as familial, revealing that her late father had asked her to care for Lee Seong-mi. “I always see him as a dependable person… and he asked me to grab care of Seong-mi,” she shared.
