Yaqut Cholil Qoumas Moved to House Arrest in Hajj Quota Corruption Case

Jakarta, Indonesia – Former Indonesian Minister of Religion, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, has been moved from KPK detention to house arrest in connection with the alleged 2023-2024 Hajj quota corruption case. The decision comes after a request from his family and is based on provisions within Indonesian criminal procedure law.

Details of the Detention Change

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) transferred Yaqut’s detention status on Thursday, March 19, 2026, according to KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo. Tempo.co reported the move was made after reviewing a request submitted by the family on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

“The request was then reviewed and granted with consideration in accordance with Article 108 paragraphs (1) and (11), Law Number 20 of 2025 concerning the Criminal Procedure Code,” Prasetyo stated.

The KPK emphasized that the transfer to house arrest is temporary and that close supervision and security measures will continue to be enforced.

Confirmation from Within the Detention Center

The change in Yaqut’s detention status was initially noted after family members visiting the KPK detention center reported not seeing him during routine visits. Silvya Harefa, the wife of former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer (likewise detained by the KPK), stated she had not seen Yaqut since Thursday evening, March 19, 2026. Kumparan.com reported her comments, noting that he was reportedly absent from Eid al-Fitr prayers at the KPK Red and White Mosque.
