Bavarian Police Warn Public After Shock Scams Extract 150,000 Euros
Criminals in Bavaria extracted roughly 150,000 euros through fraudulent phone calls known as shock scams, according to a police report detailed by br.de on October 25, 2026. Investigators stated that two separate incidents in the region might involve the same perpetrators. The largest single financial loss hit a 77-year-old woman in Kirchheim near Munich. A caller posing as a doctor convinced the senior citizen that her daughter urgently needed an expensive medication from Switzerland that health insurance would not cover. The victim subsequently handed over cash, gold, and watches valued at approximately 100,000 euros to two unknown couriers before realizing she had been targeted by fraudsters.
Germering Senior Loses Quarter Million in Parallel Extortion Scheme
The victim, a woman over seventy years old, lost gold, cash, and jewelry after an unknown caller claimed to be a police officer. The caller stated that the victim’s daughter had caused a fatal traffic accident and demanded 250,000 euros to avert a prison sentence. The pressured senior initially handed valuables to a female courier outside her property before driving to her bank on Otto-Wagner-Straße to retrieve additional gold bars from a safe deposit box, which she handed to a male suspect outside the building. Fürstenfeldbruck criminal investigators asked witnesses who observed suspicious activity between 12:00 and 16:30 around Kerschensteinerstraße to contact authorities.

Official Security Directives Issued by Regional Investigators
The Kriminalpolizei issued specific safety guidance in response to the rising wave of extortion attempts across Upper Bavaria. Investigators emphasize that citizens should immediately terminate phone calls if they feel pressured or unsure about the caller’s identity. Authorities noted that police officers never use the 110 emergency number to initiate calls to citizens. Residents are advised never to discuss personal or financial circumstances over the phone, never to hand over money or valuables to unknown individuals, and to verify claims by calling relatives directly using known telephone numbers rather than redialing.
