Yellow Weather Alert Issued for Calabria and Sicilia: September 13 Forecast

According to the Italian Civil Protection Department, a yellow weather alert for rain and thunderstorms has been issued for Sunday, September 13, 2026, across Calabria and Sicily. While northern regions enjoy stable and sunny conditions with seasonal temperatures, the tail end of a perturbed weather phase continues to impact southern parts of the country.

Calabria Weather Alert and Risk Areas

The advisory highlights risks for hydraulic issues, thunderstorms, and hydrogeological disruptions primarily affecting territories within the provinces of Reggio Calabria and Vibo Valentia, alongside southern portions of Catanzaro.

Local authorities warn that intense rainfall could trigger rapid spikes in river levels, stormwater drainage failures, and localized flooding in vulnerable zones. Mountainous and hilly areas face a heightened threat of localized landslides and runoff along unstable slopes.

Sicily Weather Alert and Sector Breakdown

According to the Civil Protection network, Sicily faces widespread yellow alerts for thunderstorms and hydrogeological hazards across multiple quadrants. Impacted zones include the south-eastern sector along the Strait of Sicily, the north-eastern Ionian slope, the north-eastern Tyrrhenian slope including the Aeolian Islands, the Simeto River basin, and the south-eastern Ionian sector.

The advisory spans territories across the provinces of Messina, Catania, Siracusa, Ragusa, and Enna, with potential spillover into parts of Palermo and Caltanissetta. Forecasters emphasize that short, intense downpours could overwhelm urban drainage networks and trigger runoff issues in smaller river basins.

National Forecast and Upcoming Trends

Outside of the southern weather warnings, Sunday’s weather across most of Italy remains stable and sunny. Maximum temperatures hover between 26 and 32 degrees Celsius, keeping values close to seasonal averages without the severe heatwaves seen in August.
