South Korean investigative television program Unanswered Questions (known locally as Geugeos-i Algo Sipeda) has launched a public appeal regarding the disappearance of Perry, a pioneering American-born rapper and producer who shaped the foundational sound of YG Entertainment in the late 1990s and 2000s, according to an announcement posted by the show’s production team on its official social media channels on September 17.

Producers are asking anyone with recent knowledge of Perry’s whereabouts or contact with his family to come forward, marking a renewed public push to trace a prominent figure from the early days of K-pop production who vanished from public view more than a decade ago. Born Perry in Oakland, California, in 1971, the artist moved to Guam during his youth after surviving a gang-related shooting. In Guam, he developed his skills as a DJ, rapper, and dancer before connecting with Sean of the hip-hop duo Jinusean.
According to historical accounts of the label’s formation, Sean’s recommendation brought Perry into the fold for Jinusean’s debut album, establishing him as one of YG Entertainment’s primary early producers. Throughout the late 1990s and 2000s, Perry produced tracks for prominent YG acts including Jinusean, Lexy, and Big Bang, effectively helping construct the musical identity of the agency during its formative years. His credits stopped appearing on releases following Big Bang’s Japanese album projects in 2011.
Behavioral Shifts and Severed Ties
Speculation surrounding his departure grew as close associates confirmed a severing of ties. Sean stated publicly that communication ceased after Perry returned to the United States. In July, former 1Team member Song Baek-kyung wrote in a web essay that while the reasons for Perry’s departure from YG were widely understood within the circle, they could not be discussed openly. Song noted that around the time of Lexy’s debut album production, Perry abruptly stopped smoking and drinking, altered his social habits, and dismissed inquiries about his changing telephone numbers.
The Search for Perry in Los Angeles
Despite his departure from the agency, family members reported that Perry dropped out of contact entirely. According to statements cited from Perry's nephew, the producer was last sighted in Los Angeles in 2010.
Bureaucratic Hurdles Hamper Investigation
Relatives also investigated potential returns to Guam, but local inquiries yielded no sightings, leading family members to conclude a return there was unlikely. Years later, family members reported facing bureaucratic hurdles in securing formal administrative assistance to track his final location, prompting the ongoing inquiries by investigative journalists.
