Yuxi Claims Women’s Three-on-Three Title at Yunnan City Basketball League Finals
The Yuxi women’s basketball team secured the championship at the 2026 Yunnan City Basketball League finals in Zhaotong on October 30, defeating Wenshan in the final round with a display of precise outside shooting and defensive resilience, new-sports.cn reported.
The tournament concluded a grueling multi-stage schedule at the Wumeng Water Town Park Plaza in Zhaoyang District. Yuxi navigated both group matches and knockout rounds under dense conditions that tested squad depth across the three-day competition.
Road to the Championship in Zhaotong
Play opened on October 29 with 33 total matches contested by over 90 athletes representing 16 prefectures and cities across Yunnan Province. Participants included corporate employees, school students, and recreational club players. Wenshan finished the tournament as the runner-up, while the host team from Zhaotong claimed third place.
Yuxi player Zhang Ziwei pointed to the team’s relentless pace and steady shooting as the formula that overcame physical mismatches during a demanding stretch of three games in a single day. Head coach Hu晓 (Hu Xiao) noted that the title required extensive preparation and stated that the squad intends to maintain its training intensity for future competitions.
Growth of the Yunnan City Basketball League
Locally known as the “Dian BA,” the regional competition has expanded significantly over a three-year development period to become the province’s most widely attended urban basketball platform. The inclusion of the women’s three-on-three division establishes a dedicated provincial arena for female competitors.
Organizers view the tournament as a mechanism to integrate athletic competition with regional tourism and fitness initiatives, supporting broader provincial goals to strengthen participation in major team sports and elevate plateau athletics.
