President Zelenskyy announced on Thursday during a press conference in Calgary alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney that he expects to meet with the American team in New York. The meetings are anticipated to take place around the UN General Assembly general debate at the end of September, according to bild.de. Zelenskyy first signaled his hope for a September sit-down on Tuesday. He emphasized the urgent need to negotiate a package that strengthens Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. While pressing Washington for missile supplies, Kyiv secured a support package from Ottawa on Thursday. Prime Minister Carney pledged interceptor missiles valued at 350 million Canadian dollars—nearly 218 million euros—specifically earmarked for Ukrainian air defense, according to bild.de reporting. In addition to the missile allocation, Canada announced a drone cooperation initiative. It also offered 450 million Canadian dollars (roughly 280 million euros) in loan guarantees designed to help the Ukrainian energy supply. Carney stated that the primary objective of the aid package is to help Ukrainians survive the upcoming winter months.
