Zobens un Lemess Festival Moves to Vecumnieki for 2026

The 11th edition of the “Zobens un Lemess” (Sword and Ploughshare) festival, a celebration of heavy music and living history, will take place from June 12-14, 2026, in Vecumnieki, Latvia, near Jaunais Ezers (Young Lake). This marks a change from its previous location at Bauska Pilskalna Park.

A New Home for a Growing Festival

The relocation is due to ongoing reconstruction at Bauska Pilskalna Park, the festival’s home since 2018. Despite the change in venue, organizers emphasize a continued commitment to the Zemgale region. As reported by NRA.lv, the new location in Vecumnieki was chosen for its compact size, scenic beauty, and atmosphere.

What to Expect at Zobens un Lemess

“Zobens un Lemess” will maintain its two core pillars: heavy music and living history. The festival will feature concerts spanning various subgenres of heavy metal, including black metal, death metal, dark metal, and folk metal. Alongside the music, attendees can explore an “Classic Village” showcasing reenactors and craftsmen demonstrating historical skills and traditions of the Baltic States. Lectures, smaller concerts, and performative events will also be part of the program.

Focus on Subculture Stories

A new element for 2026 is a focus on “subculture stories,” exploring the history and evolution of metal music and alternative culture in Latvia through conversations and documentary evidence. According to NRA.lv, this will include examining the origins of the genre within the country.

Featured Artists

The initial lineup includes several international acts: German black metal project Nargaroth, Polish blackened death band Hate, Ukrainian pagan metallers Kroda, and Swedish dark metal band October Tide. Latvian metal bands Huskvarn, Druun, and Deodium are also confirmed to perform. The official festival website states that the full program will be announced gradually.

Limited Tickets Available

Due to the smaller size of the Vecumnieki venue compared to Bauska Pilskalna Park, the number of tickets available for the 2026 festival will be limited. Visit Bauska reports that tickets are priced at 50 EUR.
