Northeast Philadelphia Officials Celebrate PennDOT Rhawn Street Repaving Project

State Representatives Pat Gallagher, Ed Neilson, and Sean Dougherty joined city officials to announce the start of PennDOT’s repaving work on Rhawn Street in Northeast Philadelphia. The project, which began on April 22, 2025, aims to improve road conditions for residents, commuters, and school communities along the corridor.

The announcement was made during a news conference held at the intersection of Rhawn Street and Lexington Avenue, where officials highlighted the importance of the infrastructure improvements for local transportation and safety.

According to PennDOT, the Rhawn Street repaving is part of a broader spring construction schedule that includes upcoming work on Holme Avenue later in the season. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade municipal roadways across Philadelphia County.

Officials emphasized that the project will enhance driving conditions, reduce vehicle wear and tear, and support safer travel for pedestrians and cyclists using the street. The improvements are expected to benefit multiple neighborhoods in the Northeast section of the city.

State Rep. Pat Gallagher expressed enthusiasm about the timely start of the work, noting that coordinated efforts between state and local agencies helped expedite the project’s launch. Rep. Ed Neilson and Rep. Sean Dougherty echoed this sentiment, underscoring the collaborative nature of the initiative.

The repaving project is funded through PennDOT’s annual maintenance budget and aligns with the department’s commitment to preserving approximately 40,000 miles of state-owned roads statewide.

Residents are advised to anticipate temporary traffic adjustments during construction, with detour information and updates available through PennDOT’s official traffic alert system.
