TSV 1860 München Pursues Fifth Consecutive Victory Against Viktoria Köln

TSV 1860 München aims for a fifth straight win as they face Viktoria Köln, continuing their climb in the 3. Liga standings. Following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Erzgebirge Aue, the Lions are now just three points away from a promotion playoff spot and seven points from direct promotion.

Kauczinski’s Impact and Tactical Adjustments

Since taking over on the 11th matchday, coach Markus Kauczinski has significantly improved 1860’s performance. His record stands at ten wins, three draws, and four losses in 17 games, transforming a struggling team into a strong contender for promotion.

Kauczinski anticipates changes to the starting lineup for the match against Viktoria Köln, stating, “It will certainly be changes.” He emphasized the need for the team to build on recent successes, noting, “If you manage to turn four games in your favor, that’s no coincidence.” However, he also cautioned that the team isn’t yet consistently stable enough to comfortably close out games.

Recent changes saw Maximilian Wolfram and Damjan Dordan replace the suspended David Philipp and Philipp Maier against Aue, while Marvin Rittmüller started in place of Clemens Lippmann. Maier is expected to return to the starting eleven.

Defensive Stability and Potential Lineup

Despite recent personnel changes, 1860’s defense has been solid, conceding only two goals in one game (a 2-2 draw against Aachen) in the new year. The defensive trio of Siemen Voet, Max Reinthaler, and Raphael Schifferl are expected to continue in their roles, provided there are no late injuries.

The midfield is likely to feature Maier and Thore Jacobsen. Kauczinski has consistently started Maier since the 15th matchday.

The coach is seeking more impact from his wide players, suggesting potential changes on the flanks.

License Application and Club Outlook

TSV 1860 München has submitted its license application for the 2. Liga to the DFL, as they do annually. The club previously came close to promotion under former coach Michael Köllner, finishing fourth in 2021 and 2022.

Club President Gernot Mang has adopted a calm approach, praising Kauczinski’s composure and ability to integrate youth players. He stated he does not interfere with sporting decisions, trusting the club’s sporting leadership.

Looking Ahead

Kauczinski stressed the importance of confirming recent results, stating, “We are now at a point where we have to confirm the recent results. Everything else is just talk.” Mang highlighted the significance of upcoming matches against Köln, Wiesbaden, and Duisburg, expressing optimism that the promotion race will remain competitive until the conclude of the season.
