emory WomenS Basketball Wraps Up Prosperous 2024-25 Season
The Emory University women’s basketball team concluded the 2024-25 season, extending their notable streak to nine consecutive winning campaigns under the guidance of Head Coach Misha Jackson. The Eagles demonstrated resilience and competitive spirit throughout the year, navigating a challenging University Athletic Association (UAA) schedule and showcasing promising individual performances.
Finishing with an overall record of 15-10 and a 7-7 mark in conference play, Emory proved particularly strong on their home court, posting a 6-4 record in Atlanta. Statistically, the team excelled in defensive three-point percentage defense, limiting opponents to a UAA-best 26.0% shooting from beyond the arc. They also consistently performed well at the free-throw line, ranking third in the UAA with a 72.6% conversion rate – a testament to their composure under pressure. The season began with a promising road victory against LaGrange College, immediately followed by a hard-fought contest against then-No. 7 ranked Washington & Lee university at the Emory Tip-Off Classic. While the matchup with washington & Lee resulted in a narrow defeat, the Eagles rebounded impressively with a decisive win over Oberlin College, setting a positive tone for the fall semester. They closed out the first half of the season with a strong 3-1 run, building momentum heading into the winter break.
returning from the break,Emory dominated Piedmont College with a commanding 100-57 victory,and continued their non-conference success with a win against Oglethorpe University. conference play presented early challenges, with consecutive losses to Rochester and New york University. However, the team demonstrated their ability to overcome adversity, securing a crucial road win against Brandeis University. The home conference opener saw a notable victory against then-no. 21 University of Chicago, followed later by another impressive ranked win against No. 25 carnegie Mellon University. The Eagles ultimately finished conference play with a 4-4 record, solidifying their 7-7 overall UAA standing.
Leading the charge for Emory this season were sophomore Alexandra Loucopoulos and graduate transfer Hanna Malik. Loucopoulos emerged as a key figure in the program, consistently delivering strong performances and demonstrating leadership qualities. Malik, in her first season as an Eagle, quickly integrated into the team and provided a valuable offensive spark.
Loucopoulos’ outstanding season culminated in her first career selection to the D3hoops.com All-Region team, making her the 12th player in Emory history to receive this honor.She led the team in scoring, averaging 11.8 points per game and accumulating a total of 295 points.Her shooting efficiency was notable, boasting a 43.4% field goal percentage with 116 made baskets, including 24 three-pointers. Defensively, Loucopoulos was a force, recording 44 steals – ranking fifth in the UAA – and contributing 39 made free throws. Her career-high 22-point performance against Rochester on March 1st, highlighted by 4-of-7 shooting from three-point range, underscored her growing impact. Loucopoulos’ achievements were also recognized with a First Team All-UAA selection, acknowledging her extraordinary play within the conference.
Malik quickly established herself as a premier three-point threat for the Eagles. Averaging 10.8 points per game (totaling 151 points), she ranked 15th in the UAA in scoring. Her 29 made three-pointers were the moast on the team and placed her third in the conference,providing crucial spacing and offensive opportunities. Beyond her scoring, malik contributed significantly to the team’s rebounding efforts, totaling 53 rebounds (15 offensive) and averaging 3.4 rebounds per game. Her ability to secure possessions and create second-chance opportunities proved invaluable throughout the season.
