Animaqing Extreme Challenge to kick Off China’s First Plateau Ecological Symbiosis Cross-Country Event

Taking Animaqing Snow Mountain as the stage, a journey of symbiosis between competition and nature protection is about to begin! On August 11, the press conference of the 2025 Animaching Extreme Challenge was held in Maqin County, Goluo Prefecture, Qinghai. This first ecological symbiosis cross-country running event in China, with an average altitude of more than 4,000 meters, will open in Maqin County on August 15. Relevant leaders of goluo prefecture and Maqin County, representatives of Wanda Sports, sponsor representatives and media representatives attended the press conference.

The 2025 Animaching Extreme Challenge is guided by the China Mountaineering Association and the Qinghai Provincial Sports Event Management Center, sponsored by the Gorou prefecture committee of the Communist Party of China and the Gorou Prefecture People’s Government, hosted by the Maqin County Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Maqin County People’s Government, and the Gorou Prefecture Culture, Sports, tourism, Radio, film and Television Bureau, co-organized by the Maqin County Culture, Sports, Tourism, radio, Film and Television Bureau and Maqin Yao Town Operation co., Ltd., and operated by Wanda Sports.

Since registration opened on July 20, the event has attracted enthusiastic attention from cross-country running elites and outdoor sports enthusiasts around the world. The Animal maqing Extreme Challenge is not only a sports event, but also a plateau practice where man and nature coexist.

Located in the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and southeast of Qinghai Province, Goluo Prefecture has the natural advantages of being the source of the Yellow River and the core area of the Sanjiangyuan, making it the most critical component of the “Chinese Water Tower.” the event is a vivid practice in Goluo Prefecture to promote the deep integration of national fitness and ecological culture and tourism. Sonan Caidan, deputy governor of the people’s Government of Goluo Province, delivered a speech: “We hope that through this event, Goluo’s unique ecological resources, profound cultural heritage and open and inclusive advancement attitude will be passed on to a wider population, so that the world can see the green value and humanistic spirit of the snowy plateau. This event is not only a high-level sports challenge, but also an vital carrier for Goluo to deepen the achievements of ecological protection and promote the change of ecological advantages into development advantages.”

The Extreme Journey of the Plateau

To ensure every contestant can focus on the challenge, the event provides free shuttle service and agreeable hotel accommodations throughout the entire process. The extensive competition gift package includes essential plateau nutritional supplies, sun protection, heating equipment, and sports protective gear.Before the competition, participants can enjoy intangible cultural heritage performances, Tibetan food, and cultural interactions at the Animaqing Ecological Sports and Culture Festival, along with exclusive consumption coupons to explore local attractions. Every finisher receives a commemorative certificate featuring Tibetan cultural imagery, marking their plateau journey with honour and importance.

The event’s success relies on a dedicated team of volunteers and referees. A total of 110 local volunteers contributed,filling 24 roles including registration,start and finish line management,and course support,providing efficient and thorough service. The China Mountaineering Association appointed 23 referees, covering technical portrayal, safety supervision, and officiating, to guarantee the event adheres to strict rules and principles of fairness.
