Apple’s New MacBook Pro Hits 2,000 Nits of Brightness and Brings Touch to the Mac for the First Time

Apple unveiled a redesigned MacBook Pro on October 28, 2026, pairing a dual-layer OLED display capable of 2,000 nits of peak HDR brightness with touch input — a feature the Mac has never had — alongside its new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, according to a press release from apple.com. The 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 120Hz variable refresh rate put the new PROLED XDR panel, offered in 14- and 16-inch sizes, well ahead of typical laptop screens, which generally top out around 400 to 600 nits.

The announcement came at an event in the United States that gathered YouTube, Instagram and TikTok creators, artists and creative professionals, and UOL was the only Brazilian journalism outlet invited, UOL reported.

What Creators Saw in Hands-On Sessions

Over the course of the day, attendees watched audiovisual production demos in which iPhones were integrated with professional equipment and processed in real time on a MacBook. In another session, stylist Susan Fang and designer Orelio de Jonghe showed how they use the computer to design three-dimensional clothing and accessories that are later brought to life with 3D printing. The most engaging activity, UOL reported, was a nearly 30-minute hands-on class with Apple specialists on editing video on the touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro.

None of the demonstrations showcased technology exclusive to Apple, the outlet noted. The pitch was different: positioning the brand’s computer and phone as professional tools inside real creative workflows.

M5 Chips, 24-Hour Battery and a Lighter Build

The new MacBook Pro runs on the M5 Pro and M5 Max, which Apple describes as its most powerful laptop chips, with up to 128 GB of unified memory and up to 16 TB of storage. Battery life reaches up to 24 hours, and the redesign shaved weight to just 1.5 kg for the 14-inch model and 2 kg for the 16-inch, according to apple.com. The six-speaker sound system now delivers bass 50% deeper, and the laptop adds Thunderbolt 5 ports, a 12 MP Center Stage camera and studio-quality microphones.

Pre-orders began October 28, with availability starting November 6.

Why Touch and OLED Matter for Professionals

Apple says the touch layer opens a new way for professionals to interact with content — manipulating 3D models or playing musical instruments directly on the screen. The Dynamic Island also arrives on the Mac, grouping Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI in one place, the company said.

“The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR display is a monumental leap for the Mac,” said Johny Srouji, Apple’s chief hardware officer, in the press release.

Apple Confirms Touchscreen Debut and Brightness Specs

When can I buy the new MacBook Pro?

Pre-orders started on October 28, 2026, and the laptop becomes available on November 6, according to apple.com.

OLED Touchscreen MacBook Pro Is Faster… But There’s a Catch

How bright is the new screen compared with a typical laptop?

The PROLED XDR display reaches 2,000 nits of peak HDR brightness, versus roughly 400 to 600 nits on most conventional laptop panels, with a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

Does the MacBook Pro really have a touchscreen now?

Yes. Apple says this is the first time touch features have come to the Mac, available on both the 14- and 16-inch models announced October 28.

The new MacBook Pro is more portable than ever, allowing users to carry their work wherever inspiration strikes.
