Oscars 2026: Stream These Films Before the Ceremony
This weekend, the 98th Academy Awards officially grab place, and the eyes of the movie world are focused on the Los Angeles Dolby Theatre. From Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners to the Danish-Norwegian drama Sentimental Value and Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest film Bugonia, the best of the past year of cinema will be celebrated, and the most prestigious prizes in film will be awarded. To help receive you in the mood, here’s a list of three movies you should stream this weekend.

1. ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’ (1999)

Anthony Minghella’s The Talented Mr. Ripley, nominated for five Oscars, is a psychological thriller following Tom Ripley (Matt Damon) as he cons his way into the life of Dickie Greenleaf (Jude Law). However, Tom becomes dangerously attached to Dickie and his lifestyle. Based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel, the film features superb supporting turns from Cate Blanchett and Philip Seymour Hoffman. It served as inspiration for the recent viral movie Saltburn and is the perfect way to get you in the Oscars mood.
2. ‘Frankenstein’ (2025)

Celebrate this weekend’s 98th Academy Awards ceremony with Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The film follows an unconventional scientist who pushes the boundaries too far when bringing a monstrous experiment to life, leaving the world in danger. But who is truly evil: monster or creator? Frankenstein is a visually stunning gothic horror that emphasizes its performances, led by Jacob Elordi as the Creature and Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, and featuring Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, and Lars Mikkelsen. The film received nine nominations at this year’s ceremony and is likely to take home a couple of the technical prizes.
3. ‘Blue Moon’ (2025)

Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon is another of this year’s Oscar nominees, earning nominations for Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay. Ethan Hawke has been nominated for Best Actor for a performance some have called his career-best, with Robert Kaplow earning a Best Original Screenplay nod. The movie stars Hawke as lyricist Lorenz Hart as he struggles with alcoholism and mental health on the opening night of Oklahoma! Hart is forced to watch his longtime partner Richard Rodgers triumph during a new creative chapter with Oscar Hammerstein. Alongside Hawke and Rodgers, the film likewise stars Bobby Cannavale and Margaret Qualley.
Blue Moon was released on October 17, 2025, and has a runtime of 90 minutes.
