The Dublin Police confirmed the arrest of 34 people in the riots caused by far-right protesters who set fire to police cars, trams and buses after a multiple stabbing that left five injured (three of them children) at the entrance to a school.

Police have blamed the incidents on “lunatic factions of hooligans” who shouted slogans against immigrants because of the alleged foreign nationality of the attacker. The Police ruled out that it was a terrorist incident but did not reveal the identity of the attacker for hours, which gave rise to all kinds of speculation and misinformation on the networks.

“We have experienced scenes that have not been seen in this city for decades,” certified the chief commissioner. Drew Harris. “The riots have been caused by people radicalized through social networks and the Internet.”

“We could not foresee such an outbreak of violence after such a tragic event,” admitted Harris, who highlighted the destruction caused by a hundred masked men who set fire to several vehicles and wreaked chaos in the center of Dublin, in scenes that brought to memory the riots in Belfast during the conflict in North Ireland.

“People full of hate tried to break the police cordon around the crime scene and carried out scenes of violence against the officers, throwing blunt objects, breaking shop windows and looting shops,” added the chief commissioner of the Irish Garda.

The Minister of Justice Helen McEntee He described the scenes of violence as “intolerable” and warned that “criminal and manipulative elements cannot be allowed to take advantage of a tragedy to create chaos.”
