Hawaiian Electric Crews Working to Restore Power to Over 111,000 Customers Amidst Storm

HONOLULU, March 14, 2026 – Hawaiian Electric crews and contractors are actively assessing damage and making repairs to restore power to approximately 111,000 customers across Oahu, Hawaii Island and Maui County. Restoration efforts are underway when conditions are safe, as some areas continue to experience heavy rainfall and strong winds. Customers are advised to prepare for potential extended outages through the weekend as the storm progresses.

Current Outage Status (as of 8 a.m. HST)

  • Oahu: Roughly 72,000 customers are without power in various locations, with the majority of outages concentrated in windward and east Honolulu areas. Crews restored power to approximately 65,000 customers overnight and are now focused on repairing two of three storm-damaged high-voltage transmission lines that carry power from Leeward Oahu over the Koolau range to Windward Oahu and east Honolulu. The third transmission line has been out of service since a February 8th storm damaged a structure near the ridge top. Repairs require a specialized helicopter, which has been unavailable.
  • Maui County: Approximately 20,000 customers are affected by outages in South, Upcountry, and East Maui. Restoration is hampered by hazardous weather conditions and road closures.
  • Hawaii Island: Around 19,000 customers are without power in Puna, North and South Kona, North Kohala, and South Point.

Outage numbers are dynamic and subject to change as power is restored and recent outages occur. Customers can check the current outage map and report outages at hawaiianelectric.com and through the mobile app.
