Dozens of Animals Rescued from Filthy Flint Township Home
FLINT TOWNSHIP, MI – A disturbing case of animal neglect came to light in Flint Township on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, when police discovered 64 animals living in horrific conditions. The rescue involved 61 dogs and three cats found alive, alongside the remains of 26 dogs and one cat.
Conditions Described as ‘Overwhelming Filth’
Officers executing a search warrant on a home on Elms Road, near Beecher Road, encountered “overwhelming filth” and toxic air, according to the Flint Township Police Department as reported by ClickOnDetroit. Ammonia levels were so high they caused eye and lung irritation, forcing officers to work in shifts to minimize exposure.
The Scene and the Animals
The living animals were found amidst piles of feces and rotting furniture. The deceased animals had been placed in trash bags near the front door, according to MLive. Rescuers noted the surviving animals were fearful and hid from them.
Investigation and Response
The Flint Township Police Department is currently investigating the case, but has not announced any arrests as of Wednesday, February 18, 2026. “Conditions like this do not happen overnight,” department officials stated on social media. “This was prolonged suffering.”
Animal Control in ‘Crisis Mode’
The 64 surviving animals are now in the care of Genesee County Animal Control, which described itself as being in “crisis mode” as reported by ABC12. The agency is providing medical care and the animals are not currently available for adoption.
Community Support Requested
Genesee County Animal Control is seeking donations through the Shelter Animal Donations nonprofit to help cover the cost of food, medical needs, and supplies. The nonprofit has already raised over $20,000.
Recent Cases of Animal Abuse in Southeast Michigan
This incident follows other recent cases of animal abuse in the region. On February 9, a Pontiac woman was sentenced to 92 days in jail after 37 animals were removed from her home in 2024. Authorities recently found 20 dogs and four turtles living in “deplorable” conditions at a Warren home.
