At least two people have died this Thursday at the hands of a gunman who opened fire in a classroom at a university medical center in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam and in a nearby house, as reported by the Dutch Police.
A 32-year-old suspect was arrested after authorities confirmed on social media that shots had been fired at the Rotterdam Medical Center and in a house.
Videos posted online showed police instructing students, some of them dressed in medical gowns, to run away as heavily armed arrest teams arrived at the scene.
Video showed a man handcuffed in what appeared to be camouflage pants after being detained on the hospital helipad. The suspect was a student at Erasmus University.
A 39-year-old woman and a 42-year-old Erasmus University professor died after the attack, the local police chief, Fred Westerbeke, reported at a press conference. The woman’s 14-year-old daughter was also shot and is in serious condition.
