Siemens will invest 300 million euros in its German operations to expand production capacity for electrical switchgear, creating 700 new jobs by 2030. The company plans to grow its Frankfurt facilities while establishing a new production site in Offenbach to meet surging global demand for industrial electrification and data center infrastructure.
Expansion Strategy and Job Creation
The 300-million-euro investment aims to scale up manufacturing capabilities across the Frankfurt and Offenbach regions. According to an official company announcement, the expansion will be completed in phases through 2030, resulting in 700 additional jobs.

The Frankfurt site, which currently employs approximately 2,800 people across production, research, and development, will remain central to the company’s output. Siemens intends to relocate a portion of its pre-production processes to a new, leased facility in Offenbach to optimize manufacturing workflows and increase total volume.
Why Demand for Switchgear is Rising
The company attributes this capital expenditure to a global rise in demand for "intelligent electrification." Siemens CEO Roland Busch stated that sectors such as industrial automation, electric mobility, and data centers are driving this growth.
Peter Körte, head of the Smart Infrastructure division, highlighted the specific impact of the artificial intelligence boom on the energy sector. "The market for data centers is booming worldwide with growth rates well above ten percent," Körte said. "The next generation of data centers is currently being built. These are large industrial plants with a huge power demand. For this, we need next-generation switchgear."
Market Context: Data Centers and Industrial Power
The shift toward high-performance computing has placed significant pressure on existing electrical grid infrastructure. Modern data centers require sophisticated power distribution systems to manage massive energy loads reliably.
