Michigan Fan and Player on Suspicious ‘Stomp’ After MSU-UM Football Game Sparks Controversy

After a tense Michigan State Spartans football game against their rivals, the University of Michigan Wolverines, ended in a 24-17 Michigan victory, controversy erupted over an incident involving a potential on-field stomp.

Video footage has sparked heated debate, showing Michigan running back Kalel Mullings appearing to stomp on someone on the ground during a chaotic after-the-whistle moment.

NCAA to Investigate incident

MSU Athletic Director Alan Haller confirmed that he reached out to Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti shortly after leaving the field, and both agreed the incident requires review.

Haller hopes the Big Ten investigates the incident thoroughly, considering Mullings’ actions. This is not the first time the rivalry has seen contentious post-game incidents. Two years ago, eight MSU players were suspended for their role in an altercation with Michigan players in a tunnel.

Haller emphasizes both schools should be held to the same standard and timeline for accountability.

“I don’t think that situation (in 2022) should have been a criminal incident, and I don’t think this should be, as well,” he said.. “This is a sportsmanship policy situation, and the conference will look at it.

Michigan’s Response

Michigan Head Coach Sherrone Moore addressed the situation briefly, stating they “will handle it internally” without specifics. When pressed about Mullings potentially “kicking a staffer,” Moore simply replied “No. We’ll handle it.” Moore could be seen on video appearing flustered by the question , signaling a desire to move past it quickly.

Footballrivalry

The incident highlights the tensity of the enduring rivalry between Michigan and Michigan State. Smith acknowledged the excitement and passion, acknowledging “gsomethings we said and did that I wouldn’t do as a 50-year-old. It’s something that has to continually be managed, because the emotions are high, frustration is there
